A waiter donned a pair of sunglasses and joined a bank robbery gang to repay a debt to a friend, the High Court heard yesterday.
Closed-circuit television captured the robbery as the three men threatened bank tellers with a gun, prosecutor Michael Arthur said.
Waiter Ng Kwok-chun, 24, yesterday pleaded not guilty to robbery.
Mr Arthur said on April 21, 1993, Ng and accomplices Leung Kwok-wai, 25, and Kay Sik-hong, 27, entered the Standard Chartered Bank at Choi Hung Estate.
They wore sunglasses and at least one of them was carrying a gun, used to force bank staff to hand over more than $50,000. A month later, the trio threatened tellers at another Standard Chartered branch, Mr Arthur told the jury.
They entered the Sha Tin branch on May 26, 1993, carrying pistols, one real and one fake.
