A committee chaired by Peter Else, the secretary of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, will look into the contentious issue as to who is the most eligible person for the position of Referee Development Officer (RDO). The Union's board of directors, which met last night, decided that more consultation was needed before choosing between a local candidate or an overseas person for the paid position.
'We decided that a committee will make a recommendation to the board at next month's meeting,' said Pieter Schats, chief executive officer of the Union.
The appointment of an RDO has created a stir with the referees society wanting a 'credible' and qualified person chosen while the Union, on the advice of its technical director George Simpkin, is inclined to pick a member of the Hong Kong squad whose main brief will be recruitment.
