I refer to my letter headlined, 'Flawed system' (Sunday Morning Post, January 5).
I pointed out that the pre-college education programme currently being enforced in Hong Kong was putting all students of the local school system at a disadvantage when compared with their peers in other developed countries. I specifically asked the Education Department for an explanation for a system that thwarts Hong Kong students' intellectual and vocational development.
I trust the department would agree with me that the issues I raised are real and practical.
In fact, the situation pointed out by my letter is so obvious that I believe that professionals in the department have been aware of it all along. I would have thought that in an open and responsible government, in addition to giving a responsible explanation for the current system, the department would hasten to outline its direction for future development.
I am surprised that the Education Department has so far remained silent.
I am beginning to worry about the civic attitude of our children if their education programme is managed by bureaucrats who run education like they were commanding the 'Light Brigade'.
