CARDIAC surgeon Jonathan Ho Kei-shing, accused of transplanting a pig's heart into a man in India, is expected to be struck off the Hong Kong medical register next month.
The former Chinese University chief of cardiothoracic surgery has spent the last six weeks in jail in Assam state after being charged with manslaughter over the operation.
Medical Council secretary Tse Man-sing said Ho had been practising in the territory under a limited licence, which expires in three weeks.
Doctors trained in non-Commonwealth countries receive limited licences to work for universities or the Hospital Authority. Those seeking full registration face up to two years of tests.
'His registration is only valid until March 11,' Mr Tse said.
'He will automatically be struck off the register in March, unless he renews his limited registration.'
