Cheung, Lai take top awards

Canto-pop artistes heroes were honoured at the glittering JVC Hit Award Presentation Ceremony.

The ceremony was aimed at rewarding performers for their outstanding contributions to showbiz last year.

Thousands of fans attended the occasion at the Hong Kong Coliseum, to applaud their favourites.

Singers, composers and lyricists received awards for their outstanding contributions to the music scene.

Prizes were given in 30 categories. The winners were chosen by public vote, a panel of professional judges and the Music Preparation Committee of Hit Radio 997.

To underline the extra-special nature of the gala, two pop groups, Boyzone from Britain and Fool's Garden from Germany, performed for the crowd.
