Canadian ceramics will be featured in a pottery workshop exhibition at Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre next month.
Walter Ostrom, one of Canada's leading ceramic artists, and Garrett Lambert, the Commissioner for Canada, will speak at the 'White On White' exhibition's opening ceremony on March 4.
Twenty artists were invited to work on the same theme, each offering fresh insight into the quest for whiteness in ceramics. It was influenced by the emergence of porcelain in southern China in the late Eighth or early Ninth century.
The exhibition will run until March 23 at the centre's gallery in Kennedy Road. Ostrom will also give a slide-lecture and two workshop demonstrations on throwing techniques and decoration.
Ostrom came to China to take up the Honorary Professorship at Jungdezhen Ceramics Institute in Jiangxi province.
The institute, well-known also because of its neighbouring potteries and highly skilled craftsmen, produces some of China's most popular exported ceramics.
