We refer to the letter from Li Pui-ling ('Do more', Sunday Morning Post, February 9) regarding sex education in Hong Kong.
As a promoter and provider of sex education, the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong cannot agree more with Ms Li's views. We would like to share with your readers our experience in this area.
Over the years, the association has planned, implemented and organised various educational and promotional programmes targeting a wide sector of the community.
We aim to provide proper knowledge about sexuality to the public, students, teachers, social workers, health professionals and parents, and help counteract the negative messages bombarding society from different sources, including the media.
We have a tradition of organising educational talks for secondary school students and, more recently, this has been extended to primary schools. New schemes seeking to enhance our input at schools are continually being explored.
Pilot programmes such as the 'Sexuality Education Week', held last month, is one example of the association joining hands with a school to devise a series of activities on sex education.
The association also offers training for teachers. In 1996, three courses for primary school teachers and three courses for secondary school teachers were organised.
