Hong Kong's restaurant circle is braced for the high-voltage impact of British designer-turned-restaurateur, Sir Terence Conran. Two venues are said to be after Conran, whose ideas made mince-meat of British dining's traditional images. The first is at the new Terence Farrell rice-bowl building on the Peak, the second is at Lane Crawford's new store on Nathan Road. Conran's concepts are bound to do well in Hong Kong, especially if he stays true to form. One of Conran's much-hyped and always packed London restaurants, Mezzo, in Soho, seats 700 people on two floors, and has a Grand Hyatt-style sweeping staircase. The Mezzo menu is Mediterranean with Oriental touches. Airport food fuelled by Lan Kwai Fong aroma Lan Kwai Fong is headed for Chek Lap Kok with a food court concept that puts a whole new spin on airport food. A bid for the restaurants at the new airport is being pulled together by Allan Zeman, who is said to be planning to combine the cuisines and skills of some or all of his eight restaurants. Zeman's stable of restaurants include California, The Noodle Bar, Tokio Joe, Indochine, Cafe des Artistes, Zona Rosa, Tutto Meglio and Tutta Luna. Cafe makes splash with range of gourmet oil The new Joyce Cafe in Exchange Square has joined the Wyndham Street Deli in offering Hong Kong's most stylish range of oils and vinegars. The Joyce collection, imported from Australia, is billed as 'flavours for serious cooks' and includes a tastefully novel variety of canola oil-based dressings that you spray, rather than pour, on to your salad. Flavours include rosemary, Mediterranean, roasted garlic and hot pepper. Prices are $84 per bottle. The range of flavoured oils includes lemon pepper, pure lemon, sun-dried tomato, garlic, basil, orange and black pepper. All are available in various sizes and make perfect gifts. Kit Kat mint version to spearhead sales push Kit Kat is going green. A mint version, complete with green foil packaging, is expected to hit the shelves this year as part of a bid to raise sales of the long-time favourite chocolate brand. Kit Kat Mint is likely to be part of a limited edition, much like the orange-flavoured version on sale for two months last year. On-line shopping offers wider range of choices The Tenderloin Meat Company's Scott Fuller has revamped his presence on the World Wide Web. The updated on-line shopping list includes new ranges of pasta, sauces, fruits and vegetables. This is in addition to the 1,000-plus domestic items already on his Hong Kong-based home-delivery list, including beef, seafood and wine. Go shopping at http://www.glink.net.hk/land .
