Two members of the Board of Education had an insight into how Chinese is replacing English as the medium of instruction at HKTA Ching Chung Secondary School.

Principal Hong Yit-kiu told them that during the 1996-97 academic year, 55 teachers were appointed and more than one thousand students enrolled.

The school, at Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong, was founded in 1985 by the Hong Kong Taoist Association.

During the visit, officials toured the school and were briefed on how Chinese was introduced gradually as the medium of instruction.

With the increasing use of Chinese in society, the school began to use the language in most of the subjects in its junior forms from the 1992-93 school year.
