Getting on with Danes' sense of fun

I seldom visit Denmark's prominent monuments, museums or amusement parks. The greatest attraction for me is its people.

Danes are fun-loving, and they make fun of everyone - their colleagues, friends, parents and themselves.

The ability to laugh at themselves, and not take themselves too seriously, is one of their greatest qualities.

They like to use irony, the incongruity between intended and literal meaning, which lubricates personal relationships among Danes.

The use of this irony is probably one of the most difficult things to cope with when trying to get on with the Danes.

I love and hate their irony.
