Hong Kong Supernet has launched its Pacific Internet Easy Access (PIEA) service directed at luring first-time users wary of committing to heavy packages.
Supernet, which formerly concentrated on business users, launched the service last weekend. It is pitching the new service at families and young adults.
'It is targeted at people who need the Internet for their personal use,' Lee Kheng-joo, Supernet's chief operational officer, said.
The PIEA package features a $100 sign-up fee and $68 monthly subscription cost which includes 18 hours of usage. PNET charges are not included.
In January Supernet's parent company, the Pacific Internet Group, launched a similar package in Singapore which attracted 55,000 subscribers.
Mr Lee said the Singapore Government was a bigger promoter of the Internet, which was supplied by three ISPs (Internet service providers), compared to Hong Kong's 88.
