British Telecom (BT) has launched a new PC videophone which offers computer-based video and data-conferencing and fast Internet access via ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network).
The DVS100 offers a choice of three software interfaces, all providing industry-standard compliance using Intel's ProShare data-conferencing application and Microsoft's NetMeeting software. It also doubles as a remote access device to local area networks from a single card, which negates the need for another ISDN terminal adapter.
BT claims it will be an ideal product for the small office home office (Soho) and education markets. It is also aimed at teleworkers who need to use a variety of different applications, including Internet access and video-conferencing from the one conference point.
BT designed the DVS100 so it would not require a high-performance PC to run successfully.
Patrick Chu, marketing manager for BT Hong Kong, said the DVS100 was a key element of BT's strategy for video-conferencing and gave a flexible, value-for-money option for desktop computer users.
