I read with interest the MTR's recent plans to build new lines from Wan Chai to Diamond Hill via Hong Kong and to extend the Kwun Tong line from Quarry Bay to Tin Hau. But I wonder if the MTR Corporation has considered extending the Kwun Tong line south, from Yau Ma Tei to Causeway Bay via Tsim Sha Tsui East? This would relieve the biggest current passenger bottleneck on the system - at Admiralty, where many thousands have to change between the Tsuen Wan and Island lines. This seems a more pressing need than linking the yet to be re-developed site at Kai Tak.
A direct connection from Yau Ma Tei to Causeway Bay would turn the Kwun Tong line practically into a circle line from which other routes could radiate outwards and across Hong Kong. Would the MTR Corporation care to comment? HUGH TERRY Wan Chai
