On my recent, and first, trip to Hong Kong friends and I hailed a taxi for the short ride to a well known restaurant in Wan Chai. Literally as the taxi drove off, I realised with horror that my small camera had slipped from my pocket.
The film in the camera contained snaps of the highlights of my daughter's graduation present of a European tour.
I therefore sat down to a celebratory meal with my friends with very mixed emotions and especially as I had no way of identifying either driver or taxi.
Imagine my delight some 40 minutes later when the maitre de called me to the foyer where the taxi driver was waiting with my camera - presumably after driving some considerable distance.
The driver revelled in my delight and I had to press hard to have him accept a reward for his honesty and effort.
This incident has rekindled my faith in humanity - long since jaded in modern Europe.
