The territory could have its sole course in primary foot care following talks between Polytechnic University officials and a lecturer from Western Australia.
Shane Toohey, a podiatry lecturer from Curtin University of Technology, was also in Hong Kong to offer students the chance to study the subject in Australia.
His visit included meetings with PolyU officials to study the feasibility of a course in Hong Kong run by both universities.
Secretary of the Hong Kong Podiatry Association, Lam Lam, welcomed the prospects of introducing a course in the territory, but warned that local variants must be a major part of it.
Ms Lam, who graduated from a British university, said she had to spend almost two painstaking years practising in Hong Kong to get used to its unique situation.
'There are many cultural and socio-economic factors that a podiatrist has to be familiar with to provide proper services locally,' she said.
