Chief Executive-designate Tung Chee-hwa is to decide on the re-appointment of municipal councillors at the end of May, it was revealed yesterday. The provisional municipal councils would serve two years until the 1999 elections, regional councillors quoted Mr Tung as saying. But Mr Tung refused to guarantee that he would re-appoint all councillors, they said. Lee Wing-tat, one of 36 councillors who attended a lunch with Mr Tung, said he had clarified with Mr Tung what he meant when he said all those re-appointed must 'love China, love Hong Kong'. Mr Tung had said it meant 'doing things good for both Hong Kong and China', Mr Lee said. 'Everyone can do that. You only have to ask yourself if you can,' Mr Tung added. However, Mr Tung had declined to say whether the Democrats met this qualification, Mr Lee added.
