Official portrait of a special someone

Congratulations to Rebecca Pun who was appointed Yau Tsim Mong district officer yesterday. Normally the Government sends out a grinning picture of the recipient when it announces a new appointment, but Ms Pun must be someone special for the press release said 'an official portrait' of her would be handed out.

Perhaps this could be a whole new initiative to promote struggling young artists. If so, is there any chance it might include Pun Sing-lui, the bohemian chap who demonstrated his creative skills by pouring red paint over the statue of Queen Victoria? A new entrant to the plethora of authors settling down to chronicle the transition. We know that the Governor is planning to devote his time after leaving Hong Kong to a book about Asia. His aides say it won't be about Hong Kong, but others wonder if he will really be able to keep off the subject. If he does (keep off the subject, that is) another Patten may step into the breach.

We hear that Mrs Patten is gearing up to write an account of her years in Government House.
