Wine: Renaissance Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc Grape: Sauvignon Blanc Region: North Yuba, California Vintage: 1994 The Renaissance Vineyard and Winery is a mountain estate located 707 metres above sea level with spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada peaks. The official appellation is North Yuba. The climate is ideal for vines - above the fog and below the snow. Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc grapes benefit particularly from the cool nights and rocky terrain. In some years, natural Botrytis occurs and delicious Late Harvest Sauvignon Blancs and Rieslings are made. The grapes are cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks for 70 days, then spend five months in German wood barrels. Renaissance Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 1994 is a brilliant gold in colour. On the nose are ripe tropical fruit aromas. The wine is very unctuous, rich, full flavoured and long. Try it with berry fruits or apple tart. Where To Buy: From Decanter, Oliver's, or City Super wine departments, around $200 per half bottle. Cases can be ordered direct from the importer Jebsen (Tel: 2926-2218).
