Hong Kong's disabled athletes received a major boost as the Standard Chartered Bank presented a $400,000 cheque to the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (HKSAP).
Last month, 140 runners supported the HKSAP in the Standard Chartered Marathon, raising $153,000 through pledges.
In addition, Watson's Water contributed $30,000 and King Fook Jewellery Group donated $23,000. In appreciation of the joint fund-raising effort, the Standard Chartered Bank topped up the total amount to $400,000.
The money will help the HKSAP to send athletes to international events, including the Cerebral Palsy Robin Hood Games in Britain in July and the World Wheelchair Games in Britain in August.
At the Hong Kong Sports Institute a cheque was presented to the gold medal-winning cerebral palsy 4 x 100 metres relay team - Cheung Yiu-cheung, So Wah-wai, Chiu Kwok-pang and Chan Shing-chung - who competed in last year's Atlanta Paralympic Games.
