3Com says its embedded software for data networking devices will allow computer users and network managers to fast-track certain types of data flow, to ensure better use of the available network bandwidth.
3Com has unveiled TranscendWare software, integrated modules that manage networks according to the priority of the user.
The technology is embedded in 3Com network interface cards, high function and boundary local area network (LAN) switches, remote access systems and concentrators, LAN hubs, and wide area network (WAN) routers.
3Com sales operations director for Asia-Pacific Shane Buckley said: 'It is an end-to-end software capability that is deployed right across the network at different components of the network at different times.' The TranscendWare software line includes Pervasive Management, Network Control and Global Policy, which are deployed on three sections of the network: the core (such as data centres), the edge (such as LAN/WAN boundaries) and on user end systems.
TranscendWare can be programmed by business managers to determine which users and applications will get priority when the network is congested.
The Global Policy Server stores the information and downloads the policy table to the interface card, which flags the designated level of priority on every data packet transmitted by the user's computer.
