The first six days of the Hong Kong Flower Show 1997 attracted a record-breaking attendance of over 310,000, the highest in Sha Tin Park since 1991.
Winners of the School Section Competitions were awarded trophies for excellence in garden plot, pot flower growing, floral art as well as pot plant growing/ nursing.
There were 1,045 entries from primary and secondary schools to the competitions organised by the Regional and Urban Councils, and the Education Department.
Officiating at the prize presentation ceremony, the Vice-chairman of the Regional Council's Recreation and Culture Select Committee, Chan Ping, said the competitions would further develop students' interest in plant cultivation and enhance their awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
Wan Chai School, champion of the School Garden Plot Competition, was awarded the Grenham Cup. SKH All Saints' Primary School (AM) and Po Leung Kuk Chong Kei Ting Primary School (AM), co-champions of the Primary School Pot Flower Growing Competition, were presented the Ho Man-wui Cup.
The K C Jay Cup went to Pok Oi Hospital Tang Pui King Memorial College, champion of the School Floral Art Competition, the Education Department Cup went to Kau Yan College, champion of the Secondary School Pot Plant Growing/Nursing Section.
