Secretary for Works Kwong Hon-sang pledged the Government would complete a new catalogue of slopes by the end of the year. At a special Legislative Council's Finance Committee meeting, Mr Kwong said the new catalogue would contain details of 50,000 slope features. 'Data acquired so far indicates that there may be some 30,000 old slopes which have not been included in the old catalogue. 'Many of these old slopes need upgrading to modern standards,' he told legislators. Mr Kwong said the Government was now drawing up plans to deal with them, including injecting more resources and creating more projects on landslip prevention measures. By the end of last year, 4,700 preliminary studies and 650 detailed studies had been completed. As a result, 100 government slopes were upgraded under the Landslip Preventive Measures Programme, and the Buildings Department has issued dangerous hillside orders to the owners of 160 private slopes.
