THE Dubai Commerce and Tourism Promotion Board (DCTPB) is organising a major delegation to market the Emirate's attractions as a cargo-handling and distribution hub in Hongkong. The delegation will take part in the World Freight, International Freight Transport and Distribution exhibition to be held at the Hongkong convention and exhibition centre between March 2 and 4. The convention will be supported by third International Air Cargo and Express conference and is co-sponsored by the South China Morning Post. Another major event the International Containerisation and Intermodal Expo will be staged simultaneously at the same venue supported by the second Containerisation and Intermodal Conference. This will be the third consecutive year in which the DCTPB is leading a Dubai group to this exhibition. Other members of the group will be the Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), Emirates Sky Cargo, Gulf Express Freight, Trans Ocean Bridge and Sharaf Shipping Agency. Explaining the importance that the DCTPB's attaches to World Freight, director Khalid bin Sulayem said: ''This exhibition is vital to Dubai's transport and distribution sector. It is the biggest freight event held in Asia-Pacific which is Dubai's major trading partner.'' Of Dubai's top 20 import suppliers, as many as 10 are Asian countries including China, which together accounted for nearly half our total imports during the first three quarters of 1992, compared to just 34 per cent in the same period of 1991. ''So, not only is Asia our main import source for Dubai, it is also one of our fastest growing trade partners,'' stressed Mr Khalid. Asia also generates nearly all of the 7,778 tonnes of sea-air cargo handled by the Dubai Cargo Village.
