I refer to the letter headlined, 'No peace', from Mark Williams (Sunday Morning Post, March 9).

The Report Room of Sha Tin Police Division received two complaints of noise emitting from the Royal Ascot construction site from one complainant during the period of February 26 to March 2.

On the first occasion, when police attended the scene they could not locate any source of excessive noise, although it is possible that the noise could have been stopped before their arrival.

On the second occasion, when police attended the scene, a worker carrying out work at Block 9 of the development was located. Since he did not have a permit from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the workman was duly warned by police and the noisy work ceased.

No summons action was deemed necessary as the objective had been achieved. When the EPD issue a Construction Noise Permit this is normally copied to the local police station for reference.

However, as far as the Royal Ascot development is concerned, no such permit covering the period in question was received by Sha Tin Police Station.
