Ffree Fire settles for line honours

Sam Chan's Ffree Fire stormed home to a convincing line-honours win in the San Fernando Race yesterday - but missed the race record set by Rothmans by more than six hours.

Ffree Fire took line honours after sailing for 56 hours and 20 minutes to win the prestigious 480-mile yacht race in good sailing conditions.

Breezing home in 21 knot winds, Ffree Fire missed Rothmans' record set eight years ago at 50 hours and two minutes. Ffree Fire missed the record on Saturday afternoon when she still had about 30 miles of the race left to go.

She was well ahead of the field sailing in excellent weather with strong winds.

She continued her dominance to her expected victory yesterday. Competitors enjoyed flat seas and brisk breezes on the final day of racing as Ffree Fire beat Hebe Haven-based Outrageous by about 20 minutes.

Outrageous won a close battle for second place with Intrigue, while Bengal Tiger was fourth.
