Air-cargo freight at Hong Kong airport rose 7.1 per cent to 1.59 million tonnes last year, the Geneva-based Airports Council International (ACI) says.
The territory ranked as the sixth-busiest airport in the world after Memphis, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Tokyo.
Singapore airport reported a 7.7 per cent rise in air-freight volume to 1.21 million tonnes over the same period, taking 12th place.
Air-cargo freight in the Asia-Pacific rose 6.5 per cent to 10.23 million tonnes, the ACI said.
The worldwide annual rise in air-cargo freight was just under 6 per cent, with total aircraft movements rising 1.7 per cent for the year.
The results, based on data from 487 airports worldwide, showed that the annual growth rate for passenger traffic edged over the 6 per cent mark due to strong 8.3 per cent worldwide growth in December.
