City University students and staff are taking part in a cultural festival with the theme 'Dreams and Memories'. The festival presents aspects of traditional Chinese culture, including calligraphy and paintings, Xiqu (opera) and Qigong (exercise of internal energy). It also includes Putonghua recitation, sports, English drama, dancing, singing, a 'wellness march' and badminton tournament. CityU's president Professor Chang Hsin-kang said the students' knowledge of culture was good. He said thousands of staff and students took part in more than 30 events during last year's festival. CityU intends to make Chinese history and culture a compulsory subject next year. Second-year Higher Diploma in English for Professional Communication student Chan Tim-lok said: 'Although the design of the campus is modern, I can feel a sense of Chinese culture around every corner.'
