A deadline has been set for elections to key positions on two crucial committees within the provisional legislature. The decision to try to fill the positions by April 26 was made by the working group on the interim body's ground rules. The group's convenor, Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee, told members she would move two motions at the provisional legislature's fourth plenum, which takes place in Shenzhen next Saturday. Mrs Chow, of the Liberal Party, wants the elections of the chairman and deputy chairman of the finance committee and the house committee to be held no later than its fifth plenum on April 26. She also intends to push for a swift election of the chairman and members of the committee on members' interests. In addition, Mrs Chow is to resume the debate on a motion on the adoption of the interim body's rules of procedure. The provisional legislature's president, Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai, has said that she is confident the ground rules will be passed at the forthcoming plenum.
