I refer to the letter headlined, 'Technology has its advantages' (South China Morning Post, April 8) from A. Harjani, who was replying to the letter from J. Moorjani headlined, 'Chatline can become addictive' (Post, April 2).

They were referring to the Internet's IRC Chatline. I disagree with Mr Harjani. This is the age of new technology, but it has to be approached with caution.

There are many sites on the Internet which can be easily accessed by anyone, from a child to an old man. These sites display materials which may not be suitable for everyone. I am sure Mr Harjani must be aware of the vast number of children who are addicted to the Net. Studies have shown that children are suffering physically and psychologically, due to the large amount of time they spend on the Internet. So, isn't it right to address both the negative and positive effects of the Internet? NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
