Recently crowned Viceroy Cup champions Sing Tao face an acid test when they take on Chinese professional side Guangzhou Apollo in tonight's Viceroy Challenge Cup at Mongkok Stadium. Guangzhou Apollo have made a fine start to the Chinese Professional League season, staying unbeaten in five games to occupy third spot in the standings. The side showed their Chinese league rivals that they mean business after racking up an unbeaten run of two wins and three draws to throw down the challenge to leaders Dalian Wanda and Shanghai Shenhua. Guangzhou Apollo's impressive run began with a 1-0 home win over Guangdong Hongyuan. The team then held Jinan Taishan to a scoreless draw before earning another point by holding August First goalless in another away match. Their battling performance against Vanguard Huandao earned them high praise from coaches all over China. Down 1-0 and reduced to just 10 men, they came back to score twice in the second half to win 2-1. Their latest match ended in another scoreless tie, this time away to Tianjin Lifei. But the Chinese side will have their work cut out against Sing Tao, who won their second Viceroy Cup in three seasons last Sunday by defeating Happy Valley 7-6 on penalties after the teams were scoreless following extra-time. Chinese international midfielder Peng Weiguo will not play tonight as he has joined his national teammates for training in Beijing in preparation for next month's World Cup qualifiers. Leading the charge for Guangzhou Apollo will be the much sought-after Hu Zhijun , who earlier this season turned down a lucrative contract to join demoted Guangzhou Songri.
