Four university students raised $30,000 and recruited volunteers to help underprivileged and handicapped children in remote areas of China.
It was the final-year project of Wendy Shair Wing-kei, Florence Yu Wan-yin, Colar Cheng Wing-no and Josephine Pao Man-yee, who hope to qualify with Higher Diplomas in English for Professional Communication from City University of Hong Kong.
Money raised will go to help the Caring For Children Foundation (CFCF) in western Guizhou province, where the women spent one week last year. They organised a sale, seminar and exhibition.
The literacy rate in Guizhou is 70 per cent. More than 350,000 school-age children are still deprived of the chance to study at primary schools.
'Their conditions are bad. It isn't a place to live nor a place to study,' said Ms Pao.
On their last trip to Guizhou, they took gifts of shoes and old textbooks for the children.
