TWO merchants and a company were accused of making false statements to the Immigration Department in connection with the wages of imported workers. At Eastern Court yesterday Lo Hung, 46, Tong Chi-yu, 51, and Lo, on behalf of Join Rise Ltd, denied charges before magistrate Mr Michael Hill of knowingly making false statements to the Immigration Department. The three are jointly charged with five counts of knowingly making false statements to the department between November 1990 and April 1992. The statements concerned the amount of wages proposed for employees recruited from outside Hongkong and said to be working for the Garden Palace Restaurant. In addition, Lo and Join Rise Ltd face a sixth count of a similar nature concerning an offence allegedly committed in May 1991. The case was adjourned until April 26. Lo and Tong were given bail of $5,000.
