An 11-year nightmare ends for former multiple champion jockey Gary Moore on Queen Elizabeth II Cup day at Sha Tin this afternoon when he steps out to partner Happy Monies in the opening event.
Moore has not ridden in the territory since February 1986 and in the interim has served a 5.5-year disqualification for betting related offences.
Everyone deserves a second chance and Moore has returned from that disqualification to ride brilliantly in Macau. He may not be quite so dynamic in a finish these days but he's still a masterful, world-class rider through a race. It is no coincidence that he is always in the right position at the right time.
Moore candidly admits that it was the dream of one day riding again in the territory which helped him endure his spell in the wilderness.
This afternoon means everything to him and should see some 10,000 added to the attendance as the crowds flock back to watch the jockey who, along with Tony Cruz, once ruled the roost.
'It's without doubt the biggest day of my career, the moment I've been waiting for,' said Moore.
