AN estate agent appeared at Eastern Court yesterday accused of using bogus documents in an attempt to gain more than $3 million in mortgages from the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. Wong Kwan-tat, 34, was released on $50,000 bail with a $200,000 surety. He is alleged to have put forward bogus copies of bank passbooks as proof of his income. The first charge relates to mortgages of $1,050,000 and $1,085,000, which he is accused of attempting to obtain with a false Bank of China passbook. He is also alleged to have used a bogus Belgian Bank book in an attempt for a mortgage of $1,470,000. Magistrate David Dufton ordered Wong to report to police twice a week and surrender travel documents. The case was adjourned for six weeks.
