Woefully inadequate
As I read about a beggar who had to crawl into court (South China Morning Post, April 9), I was reminded of a letter from John Shanahan (Post, April 7) about professional mendicants.
I am sure he and Kevin Sinclair are right and some people are making an easy living.
I will continue to make my small contributions, picking the recipients with care.
I can't ignore the twisted and missing limbs or the obvious old age of some of these people.
If only one of these is deserving of my charity it is money well-given.
The social security system in this wealthy country is woefully inadequate and who is going to give these people a job? I have been very lucky in my life and thankfully will never have to beg.
