Canto-pop stars sang, acted in plays, and some even vowed to try to give up cigarettes, all in the name of spreading the anti-smoking message.

Admittedly, printed warnings that 'Smoking is hazardous to your health' disappear in a puff of smoke.

RTHK and the Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health joined forces to tackle the problem, organising an education campaign to increase awareness of the hazards associated with smoking and encourage young people to give up the habit.

Celebrities involved in the 'No Smoking Camp' at Wan Chai Park included Amanda Lee, Daniel Chan, Linda Wong, Julian Cheung, Athena Chu, Lam Man-lung, Jo Jo Lee, Wong Ho-sze and Halina Tam. They sang and acted in productions aimed at driving home the anti- smoking message.

The event concluded on a high note with those participants who currently smoke signing a 'pledge card' to signal their intention to give up.

Chief organiser Chan King-chong said he was impressed that the event, now in its third year, seemed to be getting its message across to the youth of Hong Kong.
