STRUGGLING Scottish Premier Division side Raith Rovers have sacked their manager Iain Munro.

Munro took over at the club in the autumn after Tommy McLean lasted just a week in the managerial hot-seat before moving to Tayside as manager of Dundee United.

But Raith's 5-0 defeat at Motherwell on Saturday left them virtual relegation certainties, nine points adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division.

The club's directors asked Munro to resign, but when he refused, they sacked him.

Player-coaches Steve Kirk and David Kirkwood will be in charge for the rest of the season.

The job was offered to Jimmy Nicholl, himself a former manager of Raith, who returned to Stark's Park after being sacked by Millwall in February. He turned it down.
