Hong Kong Paralympic coach Wang Ruji has tipped 17-year- old Fung Ying-kee as a medal hope for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. Wang's prediction comes after the up-and-coming fencer reached the final of the Class A foil event at the Italian Championships, only to lose to his hero Ben Cheung Wai-leung, also from Hong Kong. Territory fencers won one gold, four silvers and six bronzes at the championships. It was the first time Hong Kong's Paralympic fencers have competed since winning four golds at last year's Paralympics in Atlanta. 'He is just lacking in experience,' Wang said of Ying-kee. 'I'm sure he will have improved by the time the 2000 Paralympics come around; he will only be 20 then.' Cheung gave Ying-kee a fencing lesson in the Italian final to again prove he is the world's best foilist. He won four gold medals at the Atlanta Paralympics.
