Sacked fireman's family gassed

A sacked fireman facing eviction from staff quarters was yesterday found unconscious in the gas-filled flat along with the bodies of his wife and son.

The tragedy was discovered yesterday morning after neighbours reported gas leaking from the flat, on the 20th floor of the Fire Services Department's Tsuen Wan staff quarters.

Police and firemen found Yip Wai-sun, 33, on the kitchen floor, semi-conscious and covered by a blanket.

In a nearby bedroom were the bodies of his 34-year-old wife, Hung Mei-ki, and 11-year-old son, Yip Shing-fok.

A mains gas supply pipe in the kitchen had been severed and was leaking, investigators said.

Yip was in fair condition last night at Princess Margaret Hospital.
