Merchant banker Mark Beames relishes the chance to play in the Ericsson league and on Thursday shot the best round on his short golfing career.
Beames, who is the managing director of the fund services division of MeesPierson and plays off 25.2, shot 85 and amassed 46 stableford points in his team's second-place finish.
He has played in two of the three rounds of the league in a team made up of executives from Ernst & Young and MeesPierson and Thursday's round moved them to third place on the league standings.
Beames took up golf only two years ago but now is a self-confessed addict. He travels twice a month to the Bernard Langer-designed Lotus Hill course in China where he plays two rounds during a weekend and makes trips to the Philippines and Thailand to play on holiday long weekends in Hong Kong.
'The Ericsson league is a great way to improve your golf competitively as well as acting as a corporate bridge and meeting place,' he said.
'Last Thursday was the first time I have managed to crack 90 and it's given me a real thrill,' Beames said.
