Ericsson has hired two Hong Kong film stars to take part in a $15 million television campaign to advertise its new digital cellular phone. The Supreme 788 will be promoted by Maggie Cheung Man-yuk, named Best Actress at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards, and by actor Michael Wong. It will initially be available for GSM digital networks in 900 MHz bands. The Supreme 788, with talk time of three hours, standby time of 60 hours and a charge time of one hour, is 10 centimetres high and weighs 135 grams. The phone has a flip-out mouthpiece. The handset was designed by a Chinese engineer at Ericsson's Singapore research and development plant. Motorola and Nokia have also recently launched lightweight digital handsets in Hong Kong.
