Challenge over lawsuit bid
Liberal Party legislator Howard Young plans to write to Legco's House Committee asking members whether they want to be plaintiffs for the Democratic Party in suing the provisional legislature over starting of the legislative process before July 1.
Mr Young, a provisional legislature member, was reacting to Democratic Party vice-chairman Albert Ho Chun-yan, who had said earlier that the best scenario and greatest chance of winning the case was for the current legislature to be the plaintiff.
Mr Young said the move was to press the Democrats to start their legal action as soon as possible.
'If the council refuses to be their plaintiff, the Democratic Party should know it doesn't have any other option left.' Mr Young said that the post-handover legislature had been established under China's legal system and he wondered which court the Democratic Party could refer the case to.
