Careful

I refer to the letter from Barbara Park headlined, 'Weird colours' (South China Morning Post, April 16).

The main purpose of applying colours to shotcreted slope surfaces is to reduce glare from the new surface.

Different colours are used with a view to blending the new slopes with the surrounding area. The choice of colours is carefully considered so as to reduce the visual obtrusiveness of the finished slopes as far as possible.

As different colours have a different impact on individuals, the Highways Department is presently looking at various finishes, including the use of vegetation, in the treatment of shotcreted slopes.
