Police are collecting more evidence over the death of an Australian construction worker before deciding whether to question a British soldier who has flown home. Officers yesterday reclassified the case as homicide after Gary John Tait, 34, died in hospital on Tuesday night after being knocked into a coma during a fight outside a Wan Chai bar on April 20. They believe Tait was involved in a dispute with a non-commissioned Army officer who was having farewell drinks with colleagues. An anonymous phone call alerted the police to the incident but when they arrived all the soldiers had left. The British Garrison, which recognised the soldier allegedly involved from a photofit picture, is helping police but cannot order the serviceman to return. It is understood British police may be asked to interview the man.
