There was a time when it was known as the 'revolting' restaurant, then a time when it was hardly known at all; now R66, the revolving restaurant and lounge in Wan Chai's Hopewell Centre, has been renovated, is under new management and putting in a concerted effort to compete with the Furama hotel's popular La Ronda restaurant.

The sleek, modern venue now 'boasts much more than just the best view of Hong Kong Island'.

At lunch, the best bet is its buffet of such mixed fare as crabmeat samosa, tuna sashimi, oysters with tomato salsa, black bean marinated chicken breast and barley risotto with crispy vegetables brunoise on red wine sauce. In the evenings, go a la carte.

Confusingly, R66 is named because it takes 66 minutes to revolve, but you will find it on the 62nd floor.

Peter Find came to Hong Kong in 1995 to work as executive chef at the Mandarin Oriental's Pierrot restaurant (which, of course, closes in a few months) where he built up a good reputation.

Now he can be found at the equally popular The Verandah over at the Repulse Bay where he will no doubt cause a stir.
