I refer to the article headlined, 'Emigrants opt for their old way of life' (Sunday Morning Post, April 27).

I am not a Canadian, but I lived in Canada for 10 years and I was enraged to read the comments contained in this article by a disillusioned emigrant.

I have lived in and visited many countries and feel qualified to state that Canada is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, though I must confess that rating does not include Sunday shopping. Yes the tax is high, but so also is the standard of living and quality of life and despite what Leung Wing-kai thinks, these must be paid for and are appreciated by the vast majority of Canadians.

I hope the Canadian Government takes note of these comments made by an emigrant who came to Canada and no doubt took advantage of all it had to give, including citizenship, freedom and rights, only to reject them in such a way. Everyone has the right to move on in life, but do not forget that adopted land which took you in and gave you the chance to become what you are today.

In light of his remarks, I sincerely hope that Mr Leung has returned his Canadian passport, but I have a feeling that he will hold on to it, just in case the old way of life does not live up to his expectations.

Oh Canada, perhaps it is time to re-think that liberal immigration policy.
