HOTELS in Asia, Canada and Europe keen to attract visiting executives are offering special deals promising business travellers more value for money. The Kerry Group's Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, which manages 25 city hotels throughout Asia and in Vancouver, British Columbia, has introduced a range of free services for all guests who pay the full, non-discounted rate. The new benefits include round trip airport limousine transfers, American breakfasts, dry cleaning and laundry and local telephone calls. Guests at the hotels - which operate under the Shangri-La and Traders names - can also send faxes and make long-distance phone calls at cost and check out as late as 6 pm. Group communications manager Joanne Watkins said the new package, which emphasised the personal touch, had been automatic since March 1 and did not have to be requested. 'Businessmen want to be able to do business from their hotels, but they also want to be made comfortable and enjoy their stay,' she said. 'There is a thin line between providing good hospitality and becoming a gimmicky hotel that so over-emphasises technology you need a degree in engineering to make a coffee in the morning.' Plans are in the pipeline to introduce a similar range of benefits targeted at holidaymakers at the group's nine resort hotels. The Hotel Furama in Hong Kong also has a special business package complete with American breakfast and round trip transfer to and from the airport. A daily laundry service, airport tax for two, faxes at IDD cost plus service charge, welcome fruit and free use of the fitness club are included. The Business Travellers' Package is available to visitors staying in a superior peak view room ($2,500), in a junior suite peak view ($3,500), or who pay the $250 harbour view supplement upgrade. In France, Accor's Hotel Sofitel is offering cost-price rooms at either US$125 or $145 a night at nine hotels in Paris; the rates, which include breakfast, require a two-night minimum stay, and expire on May 31. The $125 rate is good at the Porte de Sevres, Forum Rive Gauche, Chateau de Versailles, Charles de Gaulle Airport, La Defense Centre and CNIT La Defense hotels, while the $145 rate is available at the centrally located Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees and Saint Honore hotels.
