Two extra public holiday clinics are to open during the five-day handover celebrations to ease the expected strain on hospital casualty departments. The new clinics will be at Sha Tin and Tuen Mun. In the past, holiday surgeries closed at lunchtime, but all 10 will extend the hours until 5 pm. Existing clinics have been stretched to capacity during recent bank holidays with some seeing up to 240 patients a morning. Director of Health Dr Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun said the new centres were needed because many people were expected to be here for the handover. Most people would be staying in Hong Kong at this time, she said.
