The bills amending the Societies and Public Order ordinances have already been fine-tuned, although there are still some areas awaiting deliberation, Secretary of Justice-designate Elsie Leung Oi-sie said yesterday.
Ms Leung declined to disclose details of any changes to the bills - scheduled to be tabled at the provisional legislature on May 17 - when she attended the opening ceremony of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.
'We found basic principles [of the bills] acceptable to the majority of submissions we received,' she said.
'After those issues that require further deliberation are settled, the proposals for amendments will be ready for the Executive Council, and then the provisional legislature.
'In due course we will explain to the public what opinions have been received during the consultation and have been accepted,' she said.
Ms Leung also lent support to Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, who has been accused of a conflict of interest in helping the provisional legislature.
