Hong Kong has been chosen as the base for a new course leading to an international qualification in teaching English offered by the University of Cambridge.

The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners (CELTYL) will be launched in Asia this month.

Lynette Murphy O'Dwyer of the university's Cambridge Integrated Teaching Schemes Unit, said: 'It's the first, initial certificate for beginner teachers and those doing teacher-training.' CELTYL trains people with little or no previous experience to teach non-native English-speaking students aged eight to 13.

The course will run over 10 weeks, with two intensive days and teaching practice in week two.
